| THE DUST BOWL |
![]() |
This planet orbits within a multiple star system. The main pair can be seen prominently in the dusty brown sky, while a third member can be seen at the lower left. Two other stars are also present, both above and right of the strange rocky outcrop seen here. Temperatures here can go up to at least 70° C in the equatorial zone, while falling to a more comfortable 40° C at the poles. There are probably plenty of these desert planets in other solar systems. How strange it would be, that the first "terrestrial" planet found would be of this type, not really suitable for human habitation at all. Instead of a more temperate world with vegetation and free flowing water. Although the air here would probably be breathable, the heat and regular dust storms would make conditions very unpleasant to say the least. Also the planet is subject to tidal flexing from the other bodies in this system. This would manifest in planet quakes and volcanism. Some hardy souls would find this kind of place challenging, and may attempt colonization. Witness the early settlers of Earth's hostile environments.
